The General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions
(CIBAFI), the global umbrella of Islamic financial institutions, is conducting
its online Technical Workshop on “Maqasid Al Shariah in Islamic Finance.” This
two-day workshop, offers an in-depth exploration of Maqasid Al Shariah, its
meanings, and its role in Islamic finance.
This technical workshop is part of CIBAFI’s strategic objective of
Professional Development, which aims to enhance capacity building within the
Islamic financial services industry. The workshop brings together participants
from Islamic banks, financial institutions, regulatory authorities, academia,
and international organizations. It covers the classifications and levels of
Maqasid Al Shariah, the concept of Maslahah (public interest), and their
connection to Shariah objectives.
Discussions highlight the role of Maqasid Al Shariah in guiding
Shariah decisions for sustainable development. Participants engage in
interactive discussions, case studies, and expert-led sessions on Shariah Board
resolutions and Islamic finance practices.
Ms. Zainab Al Owainaty, Director of Administration and Finance at
CIBAFI, delivered the workshop's opening address. In her speech, she
highlighted CIBAFI's commitment to developing human capital in the Islamic
financial services industry, particularly focusing on critical areas that
address emerging sector challenges. She emphasized the natural alignment
between Maqasid Al Shariah and sustainability practices, noting how both
frameworks promote social responsibility, intergenerational equity, and prudent
resource management. Ms. Al Owainaty also outlined CIBAFI's strategic approach
to strengthening these principles across various aspects of Islamic finance.
The workshop was facilitated by the esteemed Prof. Dr. Ahcene
Lahsasna, CEO of Salihin Shariah Advisory in Malaysia. Attendees benefited
from the wealth of industry experience and practical insights shared by
distinguished guest speakers, including Dr. Abdulbari Mashal, Managing
Partner at Raqaba, USA, and Dr. Faisal M. Al-Atabani, Consultant from
Saudi Arabia.
