    CIBAFI - UAB Forum “UN Development Goals and Islamic Finance: A Focus on Africa" in Khartoum, Sudan

    11th June 2018, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain | The General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) & The Union of Arab Banks (UAB) are jointly organizing a Forum titled: “UN Development Goals and Islamic Finance: A Focus on Africa”. This forum will be held in Khartoum, Sudan during the period 25 - 26 September 2018, under the patronage of H.E. Hazim Abdegadir Ahmed Babiker, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan.

    Following a first successful joint Forum in September 2016 in Tunisia under the patronage of H.E. Chedly Ayari, Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, CIBAFI and UAB are coming together again to discuss the potential of Islamic finance in Africa, with a special focus on its Sub-Saharan region.

    With the United Nations working actively on development goals (SDGs) in Africa, CIBAFI – UAB are ready to discuss ‘‘UN Development Goals and Islamic Finance: A Focus on Africa”. The Forum will be a timely and an important catalyst in bringing to the discussion table some of the important areas for the development of the real economy through Islamic finance and raising the awareness of the competitiveness of Islamic financial institutions in the African region, with interlinkages to the United Nations development goals.

    The Forum will examine how Islamic finance can help achieve UN goals through increased partnerships among governments, private sector, civil society and other important stakeholders.

    The Forum delegates will have the opportunity to present their perspectives and views helping in driving progress and unlocking potential areas of growth and challenges for Islamic finance in African markets in view of the UN goals and agendas. Expert industry practitioners from in and around the region will share their insights on approaches and strategies to help tap opportunities and achieve common objectives.

    This two day programme will bring together various stakeholders from the Islamic finance industry, multilateral development institutions, international and national regulatory bodies, policy-makers, and academia to discuss the issue of frontier markets of Islamic finance.
